Youth Center Project Description
A Youth Center facility located in the heart of Rabun County will provide a degree of permanency to youth organizations which teach, mentor and guide youth outside the traditional classroom setting. Currently, there is no consistent meeting place for youth to consider “home.” The target population covers tax-exempt youth organizations serving young people 6 years old through 17 years old, all based in Rabun County with some overlap into north Habersham County given the straddle of Tallulah Falls across county lines.
The current organizations we might expect to use the facility are the ones RabunYES is presently engaged with; Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Trout Unlimited along with 4-H Club and others to be invited. Many groups will be invited to participate (example, school clubs meeting outside school days/hours and FFA).
Local NE Georgia university students in engineering and architecture will have a hand in the design as student-interns and, to the extent possible, youth from local Rabun organizations will be invited to learn skills in construction, plumbing, electrical, etc.
Property is being sought, preference being close to Clayton as a central point. Facility will rest on between one and two acres. A few sites have been offered in the Dillard and Mountain City areas, but RabunYES is continuing the search while retaining open its options.
