Winter 2024 Update

  • 2 min read

Dear Friends of RabunYES,
As the hard cold of Winter set in, RabunYES held a detailed planning session, taking stock of its programs using a two-year forward view consistent with its Five-Year Plan. One of the outcomes was the finalization of the 2024 Budget with pre-approval of programs presented by RabunYES’ partner organizations. The combination of self-driven programs and partner programs was deemed the best path to helping the most Rabun County youth in leadership training and a wide array of skills training.
To that end, the RabunYES Board of Directors approved program funding for efforts submitted by the following partners:

• Foxfire
• Civil Air Patrol
• Girl Scout Troop 10186
• 4-H of Rabun County
• Scouting BSA Troop 6
• Scouting BSA Troop 19
• Eagle Scout Projects (as a Chartered Organization)
• Cub Scout Pack 6

A bunch of other organizations remain in dialogue with RabunYES on various youth projects, where we may be able to help them out as the year unfolds and further contributions are received.

In December, Civil Air Patrol participated in the “Wreaths Across America” event. The program started with a ceremony where the Color Guard presented the colors and then representatives of different services placed and saluted wreaths for each branch of the military. Civil Air Patrol from Rabun County had its Color Guard funded by RabunYES. It is with proper equipment that we helped make their participation possible. In 2024, RabunYES looks forward to providing updated flight simulation equipment such that Cadets can practice their flight training skills.

Early in January, 4-H of Rabun County provided paperwork to RabunYES that helped them receive funding for their “Project Achievement” program, a Georgia State-wide event allowing our local youth to complete at that level. RabunYES also funded four (4) youth in financial need for Summer Camp that will be coming up this year. Approval in January allowed early planning and takes away the uncertainty for families of kids who might otherwise be unable to attend.

Lastly, 2024 looks to be an exciting year as we help more and more kids in our community.
