Fall 2025 Update

  • 3 min read

Dear Friends of RabunYES,

As we enter what (for many of us) is the best time of year in these mountains, at RabunYES we are wrapping up the programs as laid out for 2025 at year-end 2024. The highlights of this past quarter into the next one show that we are right on “plan.”

A brief update of activities follows:

  • RabunYES was indeed able to become the lead player in support of the Foxfire Summer Youth Leadership Program. Our initial goal was to raise $2,500, which would then be matched by a willing donor, but we well exceeded that target and raised a total of $10,415. The program was a major success, and Tom Buckridge also had the opportunity to speak with the students as part of their program where a check was provided to Todd Faircloth, the Executive Director.
  • Five (5) Scouts of Troop 19 will receive their Eagle Scout awards on October 19. That is quite an achievement in Rabun County! RabunYES sponsors (aka “charters”) Troop 19. An additional Scout from Troop 6 will also receive an Eagle award. RabunYES has also financially assisted this troop for its recent trip to Philmont Scout Reservation.
  • RabunYES conducted a Compass Course/navigation session on Sept. 13th on the Foxfire property in Mountain City for Scouts across the four (4) county area; Rabun, Habersham, White and Stevens. Scouts were taught the basics of compass use, map reading and other related skills. A compass course was set up the day prior to give kids their first taste of finding waypoints using a compass and directions. So many Scouts signed up that we had a waiting list…and will likely conduct this again in late Fall.
  • RabunYES is still awaiting a decent sized class of parents who are interested in the home-schooling of high school students. RabunYES can fast-track the parental learning curve. Contact Lisa Broz, Lisabroz@yahoo.com if interested.
  • There is still time to set up a class for high school students in January to address what it takes to live on one’s own and get financially established for an independent start in life. Many teens have no clue as to where to begin and find themselves living with parents well into their 20’s and even 30’s. RabunYES can set up a class at a school, church or youth group. Contact RabunGA.Youth@gmail.com if interested.
  • We are proud to have paid up our Chamber of Commerce (Forward Rabun) membership for yet another year. They do great work in pulling the community together for the betterment of the county.

We wish everyone a blessed and joyous Fall season.
