Dear Friends of RabunYES,
As we prepare for the rest of this year’s events, we are assembling a mix of our own classes & programs as well as supporting other fine youth-focused organizations across our county.
A brief update of activities follows:
▪ A tutorial session for parents interested in the home-schooling of high school students is being arranged for July 2025, roughly a month ahead of the start of the new school year. The session will be focused upon resources and requirements in the State of Georgia, to include local support groups. Contact Lisa Broz, Lisabroz@yahoo.com if interested.
▪ In late June, RabunYES expects to host a training session for college students and interested high school seniors (target ages 16 -20) addressing how to live on one’s own and get established financially. In today’s age when young adults continue living with parents into their 20’s and 30’s, this training session will get into the weeds on how to financially establish independence. Anyone interested can email Tom Buckridge at RabunGA.Youth@gmail.com
▪ In June, 2025, RabunYES is partnering with Foxfire to raise funds for Foxfire’s very successful Summer Leadership Program. Tom Buckridge, in honor of his recently deceased wife, Jean, will head up a matching gift of $2,500 in her honor with the hope to raise $5,000. Jean was always interested in kids and their intellectual growth. She earned her Master Degree (MLS) in Library Science at University of South Florida and specialized in bi-lingual library services to Latino youth in the Tampa Bay area. Jean appreciated all that Foxfire has done for youth.
▪ Forward Rabun received a $2,000 gift on March 5th from RabunYES to assist its Youth Leadership Program on a field trip learning experience. This will cover transportation costs for their next event.
▪ Troop 6, BSA received an additional $1,150 on March 7th from RabunYES to assist with its summer High Adventure experience this coming summer in Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico.
▪ RabunYES bought Eagle Scout Rank patches & medals for Troop 19’s recent aspiring Eagle Scouts who are approaching the rank. Life Scout Chaucey Nalley and Quinn Weingartz just completed their project work and are awaiting an Eagle Board-of-Review, RabunYES also helped Troop 19’s Eagle candidates with their project’s fundraising efforts. We are proud of their accomplishments and note both these Rabun high achievers were early-accepted to their colleges of choice and will start college in August
Have a glorious Spring.
